Dear Hunters Helping Hunters USA.org,

May 14th, 2002 was the worst day of my life. Fighting pneumonia and complications from an emergency C-section, my wife (Tyler) of six years passed away unexpectedly only 12 days after giving birth to our second daughter. I was now left with a newborn, Alley Elaine and 18-month old, Chloe Elizabeth to raise on my own. Medical bills not covered by insurance, coupled with the funeral expenses were a large burden for someone in my position. That’s when Hunters Helping Hunters (HHH) stepped in. HHH learned of my situation and contacted me within a matter of days, offering financial help. Even though HHH intended to not begin their assistance program until the fall of 2002, the board felt strongly that help was immediately needed in order to give me time to get my finances in order.

HHH was responsible for paying the largest medical bill ($900) and instrumental in getting the word out that a trust fund had been established in my daughters’ names. Nearly $14,000 was donated to the trust fund within a matter of months. Knowing that this money was there took an unbelievable amount of stress out of my life. This is a very nice start to my daughters’ future education and I can’t thank HHH enough for what they did for me during the most trying time of my life.

THANK YOU, HHH-USA!!!

On January 11, 2011 My brother in law and best friend John was in a car accident in southern Virginia. He has a Traumatic Brain Injury, a fractured Back and Neck, and was on a nocturnal ventilator being fed through a tube in his stomach because he had shattered his jaw. His family, was all located in Southern New Jersey , but we vigilantly traveled back and forth weekly to do everything we could to aid in his recovery.

By May 2011, one fact became clear. John was receiving substandard care and without having him moved to a better facility, one closer to home, John was going to die. Insurance would not cover the cost of transporting him from Virginia to the new facility in New Jersey. I there was no way I could afford to pay out of pocket to bring him home, I had used what little money I had on gas and tolls and things he had needed when I went there for our weekly trips. It looked hopeless.

And then a friend of mine put me in touch with Hunters Helping Hunters. Without batting an eye these wonderful people and fellow outdoors-men stepped up and stepped in. They saw to it that John came home and within a week he was making the five hour trek in a staffed ambulance to New Jersey.

They never asked us for a thing in return, and even after John was safely delivered to the new facility they people of HHH continued to keep in touch and updated on his progress his triumphs and day to day tribulations. For the rest of my life, I can never repay what they did for my husband and I. They gave my husband back his twin brother, they brought me closer to my best friend when he needed a friend the most. For the rest of my life I will owe them that last year of his life. Every smile he gave, every thumbs up, it was all because of what they did for him that he did not pass away alone and frightened. That he knew that he was loved and not forgotten by his family. That is more than a gift to a stranger. That last year of memories with him is more precious to me than diamonds.

I used to make fun of John for his insane love of the outdoors, his unending need to be out there with his gun wearing his camo, one with nature. But as much as I teased him, it was his brother hunters that came to his aid when he needed help most.

From the bottom of my heart once again, on behalf of myself, my husband, and John’s sons, thank you Hunters Helping Hunters for Bringing Johnny Home!

Dear Hunters Helping Hunters,

My name is Leanna and I am 15 years old. On August 18, 2003 I passed out while cooking breakfast and suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns on my left arm and chest. After a stay in the hospital and getting checked from head to toe I was released from the hospital. My Dad is disabled and my Mom works in a factory. They carried private insurance on me but the day I was released from the hospital, the hospital representative told my parents that my insurance was “the worst she had ever seen”. It wasn’t going to pay hardly any of my bills and by the end of September my parent’s part of my bills was over $15,000.00. As I said, my Dad is disabled and on a fixed income and my Mom’s employer was having lay-offs due to the economy. She wasn’t laid off but her hours were cut. Some months we had to pay out up to $800.00 just to keep from being turned over to collection agencies. Mom even withdrew out what she had in her 401K to pay on my bills.

Then one day Dad was reading Buckmasters and came across an article about Hunters Helping Hunters. It told of how they help out the families of fellow hunters in their time of need. He decided to write and request an application to see if we would qualify for any help. Dad then started sending in the paperwork to verify my medical bills. As time would pass, Mike Bell; would email him and let him know the progress of our application.

Then one day, a man named Bob Grubbs called us and told us we had received approval for help and would call us back in a few days after he contacted the hospital. The hospital told HHH if they would pay off our bill within 10 days they would cut it in half!! And within the 10 days HHH paid my bill in full!! Words can’t express the joy we felt! It was just an unbelievable act of kindness!! When Mr. Grubbs called us with the news we were all standing in our front yard crying! EVEN MY DAD!!! This was great timing because Mom’s employer was laying off half of the remaining employees and we were all wondering how we were going to pay this if she was laid off. What a relief! I am doing ok now, but I still am facing surgery for my burns on my chest. We don’t have to worry about that because the Shiner’s will be taking care of that for me.

I just want to say a big “THANK YOU” to everyone at Hunters Helping Hunter for all you have done for my family. You have helped us in more ways than you will ever know. We thank God for each and everyone of you. It really means a lot to know that “stranger” care so much!!!

Thank you again,
~ Leanna

To everyone at HHH USA,

I would like to share my story on how HHH helped me and my family in a very desperate time of need. I had been diagnosed with pellucid marginal degeneration which causes loss of vision. I had been diagnosed legally blind in both eyes and because of my age they were not willing to do a transplant. They said one side effect of a transplant was it could cause me to be permanently blind and others would be that I would stand a greater chance for cataract and glaucoma because of the anti-rejection drops that I would need to take daily. They told me about a procedure called Cross-Linking and suggested I look into that.

The procedure sounded great the only problem was while crosslinking is used in virtually every country around the world, it is still in the FDA approval process in the United States, and it was not covered by any insurance at this time. The cost of the surgery was $3000 per eye, which had to be paid up front before they would perform the surgery. Frantic and scared I did not know how I was going to make this happen. My daughter decieded to have a Benefit Auction to help raise money to pay for the surgeries. We reached out to many businesses and organizations for help on items for donation and that is where HHH came through for me and my family.

I worked with Mike Bell, I shared my situation and asked if they could help us in any way so we could make this happen. Mike was so supportive and helpful through the process. I couldn’t believe it when I got the news that they would be donating a Viper Climbing Tree Stand for our auction!!! It’s great people and organizations like this that really come thru for those in very difficult situations and times of need. HHH helped make this possible for me and my family and we are forever thankful.

Forever Thankful,

~ Renee B.

Dear Mr. Bell,

I would be extremely happy to help Hunters Helping Hunters with its proposals for corporate sponsorship. Hunters Helping Hunters has done a lot to assist me and my family. The grant I was given in October enabled me to maintain my health insurance and enabled me to get proper medical care. My risk of another stroke has been substantially reduced as a result and I’ve been able to get proper diagnosis of a rare blood disorder (lupus anticoagulant) for which I’ve been able to obtain treatment. With the additional state assistance I have received, I am no longer a financial burden to my family and I am no longer living without heat.

I would be happy if you would use any quotes or comments that I’ve made so far and would be happy to provide a further testimonial about what Hunters Helping Hunters means to me and my family. You have truly been a God send at a time when there was no where else to turn for help. Mr. Worden has been exceptional and my friend and I will always hold a special place in our hearts for him for his courtesy, understanding and friendship, especially at a time when friends shy away because they don’t like seeing the physical problems that come after you’ve had a stroke.

The rest of the volunteers have also been extremely helpful and kind to us. I would be happy to provide a picture also. Please let me know how to proceed to get you the information you need.
Thanks again for all your help!

~ Kenneth K.

Dear Sean,

I am very glad you and Mr. Breidwise finally connected. I am very grateful for your help with my husbands final wishes. His death was sudden and totally unexpected. He was anemic and I thought he was going to go to the hospital for a transfusion again. I was not expecting him to die. I am still in shock, sort of, and am dealing with day to day life as it comes. Your organization is wonderful and my husband always thought highly of HHH. I am sure he would be very pleased that you were willing and able to come to my assistance when I really needed the help. Use any or all of this email in your testimonials or tell me if you need something different.

Gratefully,
~ Connie K.
